It has been said (by the ancient Rishis of India) that the different parts of the body are governed by different Devas (divine impulses or divine light). The solar plexus (located behind the navel, which is the central point of the human body) is said to be connected with the Sun. This is the main reason why the ancient Rishis recommended the practice of Surya Namaskar, because the regular practice of this technique enhances the solar plexus, which increases one’s creativity and intuitive abilities.

Steps to perform Surya Namaskar

  • Step 1: Before we begin with steps for Surya Namaskar, first of all stand straight in such a way that your face is in direction of sun with both feet touching each other. Now bring your hands together exactly palm to palm near to your heart.
  • Step 2:After that inhale deeply and raise your hands in upward direction. Now bend slowly backward and stretch your head above with a very steady tempo.
  • Step 3:Now steadily exhales breathe and bent forward such that your hands get lined with your feet and head touching your knees.
  • Step 4:Now inhales slowly and move your right leg with a big step in reverse direction. After that keep your hands and feet firm with ground and get your left foot exactly between both hands by raising your head in upward direction.
  • Step 5:During exhaling bring your legs together and align your arms and head in equivalent direction making an upward arc.
  • Step 6:Now exhale until your lower body following your feet, knees, hands, chest and your forehead comes in contact with the ground.
  • Step 7:Now again raise your head in upward direction by inhaling and bent in backward direction as much as possible.
  • Step 8:At time of exhaling bring your legs together and align your arms and head in equivalent direction making an upward arc.
  • Step 9:Then again inhales slowly and move your right leg with a big step backwards. After that keep your hands and feet firm with ground and get your left foot exactly between both hands by raising your head in upward direction.
  • Step 10:Now again exhale steadily until your lower body following your feet, knees, hands, chest and your forehead comes in contact with the ground.
  • Step 11:Now again raise your head in upward direction by inhaling deeply and get yourself bent in backward direction as much as possible.
  • Step 12:At last again stand straight in such a way that your face is in direction of sun with both feet touching each other. Now bring your hands together exactly palm to palm near to your heart.
