Health Risk of Liquid Diet

Liquid Diet limits the intake of calories by controlling on what to eat and avoid solid foods. Some liquid diet which includes fluids like vegetable juice, Fruit juices or shakes, they can replace all the meals of the day. Before going on any type of diets person should be aware about their pros or cons of the diet. Here are some health risks of liquid Diet:

1. Low Blood Sugar

 

The body is not able to produce enough energy without glucose, which can cause low blood sugar levels. High intensity of exercise or not consuming enough amounts of carbohydrates may drop the blood sugar levels. It is difficult to gain all the nutrients from liquid diet.

2. Hormonal Imbalance

Diet plays a vital role in the management of hormones. Liquid diet cut off the essential vitamins and minerals from the diet which cause hormonal imbalance.

3. Gastrointestinal Problems

Mostly people follows liquid diet for weight loss, constipation is the common side effect of this diet. Once body gets used to liquids, it may cause various problems in getting back to the normal schedule of solids. It is important that the body will not be able to make space for very heavy foods instantly.

4. Stress

Stress is also side effect of liquid diet.  Not getting comfort food may cause mood swings and deficiencies which lead to headaches, fainting, or seizures in some cases. Stress is a major symptom of taking unbalanced or unhealthy diet if liquids not cutting off cortisol and adrenaline levels, then it can become a matter of concern.

5. Low Blood Pressure

It is a common side effect of taking liquids the whole day. If someone suffers from high BP problems, then Doctor might be suggesting them this diet, but that is for short while. If someone has already low blood pressure then they don’t have to switch their diet. Change the diet after the consultation with doctors.

6. Muscle loss and Low energy

Muscle loss and low energy both are the common health risk of liquid diet that can affect in long term basis. Juices and broths can minimise the content of fibre and protein intake which are the good source of energy. Essential nutrients which are present in fruits and vegetables cannot be managed if someone is on liquid diet.
